The Seychelles Climate

The Seychelles has an enviable, tropical climate; generally it's warm and humid, averaging 29°C throughout the year - making the Seychelles a superb year round holiday destination.

Between May to September, the temperature drops slightly due to the trade winds from the southeast; during this period, some south and east facing beaches are prone to more seaweed. From December to March, the northwest trade winds bring more heavy spells of rain, along with warmer weather and a higher humidity. However, even during these 'wetter' months, there is usually around 6 hours of daily sunshine.

Rain is possible all year round but normally in short sharp showers, hence the lush green vegetation. Please bear in mind, however, the weather in Seychelles can vary markedly between different islands. For example, outer coral islands usually have less rainfall than the main inner 'granitic' islands. The information provided here is purely a general guide.

The transition periods of April and October tend to offer hot temperatures with slight breezes and calm seas. The sea is at its choppiest in July and August. The Seychelles is safely situated outside of the cyclone belt.
