North Island

Noah’s Ark combined with barefoot luxury...

Standing on Beau Vallon Beach on Mahé, if you look due northeast you can see a tiny hump on the horizon, just to the right of the mountainous Silhouette Island. In the early years of habituation and exploration on Mahé, people would have done exactly that - stood on Beau Vallon Beach and looked out to sea at Ile du Nord and its' sentinel, Silhouette Island.

North Island is one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. The island had been uninhabited for over thirty years but since 2003 it has become a rare sanctuary for both wildlife and the discerning traveller. The islands natural habitats are diverse and North Island is one of the few in the world that allows the natural fauna and flora to flourish. The nursery currently has over 130,000 rare indigenous Seychelles plants that have been germinated from seedlings, including 81 of the 108 rare Seychelles endemics. The "barefoot luxury" villas on North Island are unashamedly aimed at providing the very best in seclusion, location, accommodation and facilities. Eleven guests villas ensure each guest's privacy, but the essence of North Island remains a sustainable, ecologically sensitive utilization of a rare precious treasure.

The guest villas are designed to create sensorial experience of the island and an ambient simple warmth. With a footprint of over 460 square metres (or 4800 square feet) each villa is equivalent in size to most hotels' presidential suites. The villas are completely self-contained. With four beaches located around the island, North Island is able to ensure a superb year round tropical beach and island experience including a breathtaking 45m long and narrow swimming pool nestle into a granite outcrop.

Seychelles forms part of the world's longest coral reef system and has some of the world's best scuba diving sites. Numerous dive sites have been identified around North Island and its nearest neighbour Silhouette Island. A "guided" scuba experience is available from their dive masters who, not only experts in scuba practices but also in the underwater universe.

There are good snorkeling sites around North Island and Silhouette Island. Masks and fins are available at the dive centre if you wish to explore these sites, either on your own or in the company of a staff member (depending on your snorkeling skills).

North Island is one of the forty inner granite islands of the Seychelles that are located around the two main islands of Mahe and Praslin. With a helicopter transfer taking only 20 minutes, clients will find this "Robinson Crusoe" island, a true barefoot paradise.
