Where can you find an island with FOUR kilometres of deserted white Coral sand, a 150 year old Giant Tortoise, and over twenty different species of Birds, yet only a 30 minute flight from Mahé.

Managed by the Owner, Guy. Where you are greeted as if you were visiting their home... BIRD ISLAND. Many people of all nationalities come "home" at the same time, year after year.

This island, which is only one square kilometre in area is home to millions of famous "Sooty Terns," and the even more famous giant tortoise, Esmeralda." It is also a favourite spot for the Hawksbill Turtles to lay their eggs during the day, from October to February, and at certain times of the year it is possible to see the baby turtles scurrying down the beach in a desperate race to reach the sea.

The beauty of Bird is that you can choose to either partake of more energetic pursuits like Fishing (either Game or Bottom), use any of the Free watersport facilities, even Kayaks, go for a Glass Bottom Boat trip, laze on the beach offering safe swimming and snorkelling, or just explore the island's interior.

The 24 individual bungalows, all with four poster bed, a lounge area that can be converted to two additional beds, shower room, and separate toilet and bidet, overlook the gardens and the sea, and it is lovely to wake to the sound of thousands of birds. A unique feature of the island, is that NONE of the doors have locks!!

The hotel has a spacious lounge, a boutique, and a library. The restaurant offers a choice of Continental and English breakfast, a delicious buffet Creole lunch and a European style dinner in an informal atmosphere.

The main theme that you are made aware of by the manager, in his briefing when you arrive is the Ecological environment and its protection.

Gentlemen are requested to wear long trousers at the Bar after 7.30 p.m.

The flight time from Mahé is 30 minutes. Flights operate daily departing Mahé at 14.15hrs.
