Activities & Interests

"...the wreck is now home to Giant Moray Eels, Scorpion Fish, Eagle Rays, Lion Fish, Schools with thousands of fusiliers, jacks, barracudas and a number of Sharks, and Giant Cod..."

Excellent spots for advanced divers such as "Alice in Wonderland", "Abyss", and "Napoleon Point" delight even the diver who has already seen everything. Coral formations of breathtaking beauty, huge steep cliff faces, and enormous plateaus are home to countless fish. You will see different species of shark, majestic rays, large tuna, sea turtles, octopus, and squid along with barracudas and even whales (in October). The home reef is also ideal for beginners. A complete set of equipment, including tanks, can be rented.

Alphonse is the diving spot in the Seychelles! This island was been discovered by Chevalier Alphonse de Pontevez in 1730. The location is in the middle of the Indian Ocean about 7? south of the Equator and 450 kilometres away from the capital Victoria on the main island Mahe.

Alphonse Island Group approximately 16km long exists out of two coral atoll rungs which are divided by the 500m deep "Canal de la mort". Both of these atoll rings rise up from a depth of around 500m Alphonse itself is surrounded from a natural lagoon that reaches a depth of 7m and is partly covered with coral reef. The outer rim starts in a distance of 200m from the island at a depth of 3m with a beautiful coral landscape that drops down gently to 12m and ends with a dramatic drop-off (5000m) At about 15m depth huge gorgonian fan corals welcome you to a fairytale world.

On the plateau we can usually find many turtles. At a level of 13m a very nice drop off starts and you will be able to witness the oceans under-water life.

Doile

In 1867 the "Doile" hit the reef of Alphonse and sunk unfortunately to an unreachable depth for divers. Some part is still visible from the beach, you may find some artifacts on the reef. The dive itself is along a wall that slopes down in steps and has some nice pinnacles at 22-30m Big Tunas and Eagle Ray cross your path as well as Napoleons and Mackerals.

Napolean

Small coral reef plateau in from of the neighbour island Bijoutier. A coral garden awaits at a depth of 18-24m. You can also meet Napoleans, Snapper, Groupers and shoals of Fusiliers.

Abyss

This dive site is very special and shoud not be missed. You can dive in 3 areas. On the shallow plateau there is a beautiful coral garden that starts at 10m and ends at a depth of 20m. The middle part is a wall from 20-40m with huge overhags, overgrown with soft corals and gorgonian fan corals. In some small canyons you can find Nurse Sharks or sleeping Sting Rays and also Ribbon Eels and Honeycomb Morays. The last areas is the real "Abyss" a steep wall from 40m downwards to 5000m

A great place in a beautiful coral garden dropping deeper with big shoals of Snappers, Reef Sharks, Turtles and Rays. Hammerheads like this wall a lot!
